Abstract
1372635 Developing electrostatic images RANK XEROX Ltd 3 March 1972 10041/72 Heading G2H [Also in Division B6] In a method of developing electrostatic latent images with a liquid electro-phoretic ink by moving an image carrier past a development electrode, the carrier is embossed along opposite side edge portions thereof before movement past the electrode so that the image surface of the carrier is spaced from the electrode by the height of the embossments. As shown, Fig. 1, electro-photographic paper is fed from a roll 1 to a charging station 7 and an exposure station 8. After passage under a nozzle 18 which sprays insulating liquid the paper is embossed (between rollers 10 and 10', along opposite side edge portions to provide ridges 20, 20' which serve to space the image bearing surface of the paper from development electrodes 11. The roller electrodes are journalled for vertical movement upon engagement with the embossments. The rear surface of the paper may also be provided with embossed ridges to effect spacing of this surface from the back-up rollers 12. Liquid electro-phoretic ink is sprayed from nozzles 19.
