Abstract
1372068 Weapons; cartridges MAUSERWERKE AG 29 Sept 1971 [3 Oct 1970] 45455/71 Headings F3A and F3C A firing device for a cartridge comprises, as shown in Fig. 1, a piezo-electric generator 3, a striker 4 to produce a voltage in the generator, and a circuit to amplify the voltage to produce a firing voltage of approximately 2800 volts or more not more than 7 microseconds after the generator has been struck; the cartidge (Fig. 3) comprises a moulded propellent charge 10 which is consumed within 100 microseconds of the generator being struck, a primer 11, and an electrode 12 embedded in the primer and fed by the firing voltage. The electrode 12 may consist of electrically conductive varnish. The arrangement provides a rapid rate of fire in automatic small arms and machine guns.
