Abstract
1371808 Thermal regenerators R N PENNY 20 Nov 1972 [18 Nov 1971] 53500/71 Heading F4K In a rotary regenerative heat exchanger matrix conprising a hollow drum defined by inner and outer circumferential walls 1 and 4 bounded by end walls 2 and 3, the drum interior is divided into a plurality of sector-shaped compartments by radially extending walls 6, each compartment being filled with a mass 7 of reticulated metallic foam material which may be bonded to the walls of the compartment to impart strength to the drum. Fluid inlet and outlet apertures 8 communicating with each compartment are provided in the end walls of the drum, to permit the heat exchange fluids to flow axially through the matrix during rotation thereof. The compartments may be subdivided by transverse walls (10, Fig. 4, not shown) extending chordwise or circumferentially between the radial walls 6.
