Abstract

1371643 Automatic timing control; monostable circuits A BULLO 18 Aug 1971 [18 Aug 1970 4 Jan 1971] 38691/71 Headings H3A and H3T [Also in Division F1] An automatic ignition regulator for an internal combustion engine includes ignition and crankshaft position sensors 12 and 13 respectively, means 16 for comparing in each cycle the relative timing between a first pulse representing the ignition and a second pulse representing the crank-shaft position and means 28 for advancing or retarding the ignition in accordance with an error signal derived from the comparison so as to reduce the resulting error signal occurring in the next cycle. Outputs 16c, 16d of the phase comparator 16 provide the error signal for an integrator 25, 26. The resulting error signal is amplified in an amplifier 27 for controlling the duration of an output pulse in the output line 28<SP>1</SP> of the monostable multivibrator 28. The multivibrator 28 is triggered by the position signal 15 which is applied to the input 28a. The duration of the output pulse is dependent on the voltage across the capacitor C 5 . The circuitry of the monostable multivibrator 28 is shown in detail in Fig. 7. The output pulse in the line 28<SP>1</SP> controls the circuit 29 associated with the ignition coil 23 (see also Division F1).
