Abstract
Improvements in vehicle ignition systems, particularly in spark ignition systems, characterized in that the system comprises in combination a semiconductor switch operable between first and second states, in one of which the switch is activated and in the other which the switch is deactivated, means operable when the switch is actuated from its first state to its second state to produce a spark, means to produce a digital output signal that varies with engine conditions and whose value at any time represents the required ignition timing angle, measured from a crankshaft reference position of the engine, a pulse source driven by the engine to produce a pulse train starting from said reference position so that the number of pulses in the train represents the angle of the crankshaft starting from said reference position, and spark control means operable when the number of pulses of a train is made equal to said digital output signal to actuate the switch from its first state to its second state in order to produce a spark.
