Abstract

1371511 Elevated railway systems, vehicle control F C PERROTT 25 June 1971 27 June 1970 24 July 1970 9 Nov 1970. 1 June 1971] 29993/71 36010/70 53099/70 and 18247/71 Headings B7L and B7N In a suspended monorail system the vehicles are provided with apparatus for guiding the vehicles over static junctions. Vehicle 380 has a body 382 suspended from bogie 383 which is supported by four pneumatic tyred wheels 385-388 riding on hardwood tracks and normally guided by horizontal wheels 389-392. The bogie is electrically driven from a supply picked up by distribution rails 393. The vehicle is guided over a junction by track selection wheels 395, 396 which are coupled by beam 397 and are pivotable about an axis 398 as the vehicle approaches a junction so that in dependance on the required vehicle they engage either the left or right side of a central guide member 401 which is provided at the junction. During movement to the left as shown the vehicle is supported on two wheels 385, 387 and is held vertical by the co-operation of horizontal guide wheels 389, 392 and the selection wheels 395, 396. Keep plates which co-operate with safety discs on the selection wheels and the support wheels can be provided at the junctions, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). The normal speeds of the vehicles are kept constant on the same section of track, this speed being determined by the frequency and voltage of the power supply. For acceleration of the vehicles the distribution rails are divided into sections which are supplied in sequence with voltages at inreasing frequency so that the vehicles are subjected to step by step acceleration. A speed trim is also provided for separation control or for use when the vehicles run as contact trains.
