Abstract
1371361 Electro-medical apparatus SIEMENS AG 24 Sept 1971 [24 Sept 1970] 44746/71 Heading G1N In an exercising arrangement in which the work done by a person 1 utilising exercising apparatus 3 is regulated so that the person's heart beat frequency f does not exceed a pre-set reference f e , the regulating means 5, 6 is controlled by a signal S R given by (fe-f)K-df/dt AB f , A and K are constants and B f and variable dependent upon the magnitude of f and the polarity of df/dt. As shown, the difference f e -f is multiplied by a constant K in a multiplier 16, and the derivative df/dt is multiplied at 17 by the factor B f and at 18 by a constant A. The signals (fe-f)K and df/dt B f A are subtracted at 19 to provide the control signal S R which is applied to a servo 21 which drives a loading unit 22 for the regulator and an integrator 23 which determines the work done. In a modification, Figs.2 and 3 (not shown), the heart beat frequency signal f and a signal representing df/dt B f are applied to a common function input of a calculator 12 to which the reference signal f e is also applied. Five operational amplifiers are provided for producing five different values of B f and two further operational amplifiers are provided for controlling the five amplifiers in dependence upon the magnitude of f and polarity of df/dt. df/dt.
