Abstract

1371219 Hydrophobizing oxides, particularly silica DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBERSCHEIDEANSTALT 24 Nov 1971 [24 Nov 1970 (2)] 4538/74 Divided out of 1371218 Heading C1A Hydrophobized finely divided oxides of Si and/or metals, e.g. Al, are prepared by heating the oxide at a temperature of 700-1000‹ C. for a period of 60 sees. or less with a gas stream inert to the oxide either in a fluidized bed or with a stream of the inert gas flowing in countercurrent, and then treating the water-free oxide with an organo silicon compound, wherein a stream of dry NH3 gas acts on the oxide particles for a period of 60 sees. or less before, during or after the treatment with the organo silicon compound. The organic compound may be an organo alkoxy silane, alkoxyoligosiloxane, alkoxy siloxane, polysiloxane, alkoxy-cyclo siloxane and/or an organocyclo siloxane.
