Abstract

1370625 Pressing building elements E P SMITS 6 Aug 1973 121/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division C3] A process for manufacturing a building element comprises the following successive steps: (a) intimately mixing water, at least one finely divided fibrous organic material, at least one form of aluminium silicate filler and a hardener for a thermosetting resin to form a mass; (b) adding the thermosetting resin to the mass thus obtained and intimately mixing it therewith; (c) pouring the mass thus obtained into a mould of suitable shape and size; (d) subjecting the mass thus obtained to a cold pressing; (e) subjecting the mass thus obtained to a first hot pressing; (f) releasing the pressure; and (g) subjecting the mass thus obtained to a second hot pressing, the first and second hot pressings being effected at the curing temperature of the resin using dielectric loss heating means. The "dielectric loss heating means" comprise two electrodes, which may be in the form of plates used to effect the pressing, connected to a generator of high frequency. The fibrous organic material may be wood fragments (0À1-3 mm.) or wood fibres the maximum length of which may be about 30 mm. and the thickness of which varies from 0À5-4 mm. The aluminium silicate filler may be china clay, refractory clay or vermiculite of particle size preferably not greater than 3 mm. The thermosetting resin is preferably a phenolic resin and this may be used in an amount 20-40% by weight. Fire proofing materials such as ammonium phosphate, ammonium silicate, ammonium diphosphate, sodium borate and orthophosphoric acid. Waterrepellent materials may also be incorporated. The mass obtained in step (b) preferably has a dielectric constant # and a loss factor t g # 71%. The mass subjected to step (e) preferably has a moisture content of 5-10% by weight.
