Abstract

1370043 Bridges of prestressed concrete P SCHRECK 19 May 1972 [27 May 1971] 23718/72 Headings E1G and E1W In a bridge deck construction wherein concrete 10 reinforced by transverse ducted prestressing cables 13 is cast in situ on a permanent-shuttering assembly of precast concrete beams 1 and slabs 3, and wherein the beams and slabs have reinforcement 2, 5, 6 which protrudes into the longitudinal and transverse joints 11, 12 between the beams and slabs, each precast slab 3 is integral with upper transverse webs 3' having overhanging ends resting on the tops of the beams 1 so that during construction (a) the ducted transverse prestressing cables 13 can be laid over the beams and between the webs; (b) the upper deck reinforcement 8, 9 can be supported on the webs; and (c) the poured concrete 10 can fill the joints 11, 12 (e.g. with the use of suspended cover strips, not shown). The slabs 3 may have keying recesses 13. Rubber cushions 4 may be interposed between the overhanging web ends 3' and the beam tops. At the bridge edges, Fig. 3 (not shown), the slabs (3) may be cantilevered out from the outermost beam, one end of each web (3') being anchored to upstanding stirrups (2) on the beam by packing members (15); alternatively the cantilevered slab may be anchored by nuts on beamembedded threaded pins passing through the web ends. During construction the webs 3' may support rails for machinery.
