Abstract

1369840 Sintered rare earth-cobalt magnets SOC D'ETUDES ET DE RECHERCHES MAGNETIQUES 29 Dec 1971 [29 Dec 1970] 60517/71 Heading C7D Sintered permanent magnets are made from a powder mixture of RCo 5 and RCo x where X is <5 and R is a rare earth or Y, which is compacted in a magnetic field and the compacts are embedded in a powder of an alloy of R having a melting point higher than that of RCo 5 , prior to sintering in an inert atmosphere. The preferred mixtures contain in parts by weight, 84 Sm Co 5 -16 SmCo 2 ; 87À8 Sm Co 5 -12À2 Sm Co 2 and 91À6 SmCo 5 -8À4 SmCo 2 . The compacts are embedded in powdered Sm 2 Co 17 or Sm Ni 15 and sintered in He at 1105‹ or 1115‹ C. The sintered compact is then re-magnetized.
