Abstract
1369403 Peltier units COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELECOMMUNICATIONS CIT-ALCATEL 29 March 1973 [30 March 1972] 15142/73 Heading H1K A sheet of alternately arranged P- and N-type thermoelectric elements 3-8 held together by epoxy resin 16 is produced with the requisite thinness by slicing a larger block. Because of the small lateral spacing of the elements, the bridges 9 and their application are special to avoid the risk of short-circuiting adjacent units by solder spread during bonding. All the bridges shown are short sections of cylindrical rod (with their ends cut to show ellipsoidal faces); the direct area of contact between a bridge and its limbs is therefore small and, after the application of molten solder to the limbs, bedding the bridges in the still molten solder does not result in appreciable solder spread. The Peltier unit described is mounted at the junction of the two heat pipes 1 and 2 to effect heat transfer between them. If the wicks (not shown) of the heat pipes are non-conductive they may rest on the bridges which may be provided with channels to receive the wicks and give better liquid transfer. Several rectangular arrays may be mounted side by side in a single heat transfer wall.
