Abstract

1,241,398. Thermoelectric devices. SIEMENS A.G. 20 April, 1970 [22 April, 1969], No. 18848/70. Heading H1K. Two rigid metal heat transfer members arranged on opposite faces of a thermopile block are urged towards one another by two resilient devices each having a pair of arms which engage the edges of the heat transfer members. As shown, Fig. 1, a thermopile 1 is mounted between a pair of metal heat transfer plates 2a, 3a which are urged towards one another by a pair of leaf springs 10, 11 which engage in grooves 6 to 9 provided in the plates 2a, 3a. The plates are separated from the thermopile by electrically insulating layers 4, 5 and the grooves 6 to 9 are provided with insulating layers 14 to reduce heat transfer. The plates are of trapezoidal cross-section and the tapered gaps surrounding the leaf springs are filled with plastics foam 15. Fins 2b, 3b are adhesively secured in grooves 12, 13 in the plates 2a, 3a and the fins and plates may be of Al or Cu. The device may be a heat pump or a generator. A plurality of thermopile blocks may be arranged between a common heat exchanger on one side and individual heat exchangers on the other side, the individual heat exchangers being clamped to the common heat exchanger by leaf springs, Fig. 3 (not shown).
