Abstract

1369377 Microphone PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 April 1972 [14 April 1971] 16610/72 Heading H4J An electrodynamic microphone has the air space 12 under the diaphragm 1 connected by grooves 15 to the internal air space 14 and by grooves 10 to the atmosphere. The grooves which are radial and are angularly spaced by 60 degrees are formed in the top and bottom surfaces of plate 7 by pressing before the material is sintered. The grooves 10 in the top surface are covered by brass ring 11 and are displaced by 30 degrees from the bottom surface grooves 13 which are covered by non-magnetic centering member 16. The grooves are 1 mm. wide and 150 mm. deep. The provision of grooves 10 is stated to affect the directional effect of the microphone.
