Abstract

1369298 Drying photographic paper ILFORD Ltd 8 May 1973 [26 May 1972] 24946/72 Heading F4G A cut sheet photographic paper 1 is dried by passing the exposed and processed sheet of photographic paper into an enclosed drying chamber and directing radiant heat on to both sides of the sheet while simultaneously causing a stream of cool air to flow over the image side of the paper. As shown, the paper, image side up, is passed through nip rollers 2, 3 on to an open support 4 comprised of a network of metal wires which rollers may be squeegee rollers, for example of rubber which remove some of the moisture. Radiant heat is directed on to the paper from above the support by a bar radiant heater 9 and reflector 10 and from below the support by two-bar radiant heaters 11, 12 and reflector 13. A guide 14 prevents the sheets from curling up. Cooling air is passed over the image side of the sheets from turbofans 20, 21, Fig. 2 (not shown), the air passing through baffles 8, and then striking the nip rollers 2, 3 to cool them. Streams of air pass between the reflector 10 and roller 2, and through the reflector to pass over the sheet. The sheet passes out of the chamber by means of nip rollers 5, 6 coated with neoprene and is cooled by air passing between roller 5 and reflector 10.
