Abstract
1369128 Methyl 4 - phenylpent - (2 or 3)- enoate MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 July 1972 32146/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division C5] Chain oligomers, especially dimers and trimers are formed by reacting a vinyl or vinylidene compound of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> = H or C 1 -C 4 alkyl, Ar = naphthyl or phenyl which may be unsubstituted or substituted with one or more of the following groups alkyl, aryl, alkenyl, alkoxy, alkoxy-carbonyl, acyloxy or halogen, either alone or in the presence of an α-monoolefin or derivative thereof: CH 2 = CHR<SP>11</SP>R<SP>111</SP> wherein R<SP>11</SP> = H or C 1 -C 4 alkyl, R<SP>111</SP> = H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl or substituted or unsubstituted aryl group in the presence of a cationic Pd complex prepared by reacting (1) a Pd compound, (ii) a compound containing a fluoro complex anion or perchlorate anion and (iii) a trivalent organic P compound. Exemplified is the production of and by reacting styrene and methyl acrylate in the presence of a catalyst made by reacting #- methallyl Pd chloride, (nBu) 3 P and AgBF 4 .
