Abstract

1489394 Preparation of phthalonitriles CIBAGEIGY AG 26 Nov 1974 [27 Nov 1973 (2)] 51086/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division C4] Examples 1-11 describe the preparation of phthalonitriles of the general formula wherein R 1 is alkyl or alkoxyalkyl having 1-10 C atoms, cyclohexyl, a heterocycle, or a phenyl or benzyl group optionally substituted by halogen, alkyl or alkoxy, Y is -O- or -S- and Y 1 is a chlorine atom or the group R 1 O-. They are prepared by reacting the compound of the formula in a hydrophilic organic solvent with a compound R 1 YMe wherein Me is an alkali metal atom and R 1 and Y are as above. The compounds are used to prepare copper phthalocyanines.
