Abstract

1410191 3-Chloro-1-aryl-2-pyrazolines MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 6 Feb 1973 [10 Feb 1972] 6383/72 Heading C2C 3-Chloro-1-aryl-2-pyrazolines of the general formula in which R<SP>1</SP> to R<SP>4</SP> are each H, unsubstituted alkyl, unsubstituted aralkyl or unsubstituted aryl and R<SP>5</SP> is unsubstituted or substituted aryl, are prepared either (a) by treating a 1-aryl- 2-pyrazolidin-3-one of general formula with anhydrous PCl 3 or (b) treating a 1-aryl-2- pyrazolidin-3-one of general formula with POCl 3 under substantially anhydrous conditions in the presence of an organic base, neutralizing and extracting the desired product with boiling methanol. Compounds produced from reaction (b) are novel.
