1426374 Mercurated polymers CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED 7 Aug 1.973 [18 Aug 1972] 37428/73 Heading C3P Polymers containing aromatically bound mercuric ions are prepared by reacting homo- or co-polymers of acrylanilide, methacrylanilide or a monomer of formula where R<SP>1</SP> is H or CH 3 , R<SP>2</SP> is an acyl group, Ar is an aromatic residue and x is 0 or 1, with a mercuric salt, especially mercuric acetate. The polymers may be hydrolysed prior to said reaction. In examples, the polymers reacted are (1) methacrylanilide / 2 - hydroxyethylmethacrylate / ethylene glycol dimethacrylate copolymer, (2) acrylanilide /acrylamide / methylene - bis - acrylamide copolymer, (4) acet- .aminophenoxyethyl methacrylate / 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate/ethylene glycol dimethacrylate copolymer, (3) the copolymer of (4) but in which the acetamide groups on the aromatic rings have been hydrolysed by heating with caustic soda, and (5-) methacrylanilide/diethylene glycol monomethacrylate copolymer. Uses.-Carriers for proteins; removal of compounds containing sulphydryl, sulphide or polysulphide groups from mixtures.
