Abstract
1368537 Mechanical switches P ALEXANDER 4 April 1972 [8 April 1971] 15318/72 Heading H1N In an electric switch of the push-on push-off type, at least one side wall of a rectangular section push-button 23, Fig. 1, has a heartshaped guide groove 38 engageable by the inner end 41, Fig. 4, of a pin 40 having its outer end 42 movable transversely in a slot 7 of a side wall of the switch housing 3. The pin 40 moves generally anti-clockwise in the groove 38 for alternate locking engagement in the groove 38 in known manner. On depression of the button 23 a pair of bridging contacts 28, 29 in the button 23 loaded by springs 33 and guided at their ends in slots 27, move inwards to bridge contacts 12 of terminal pairs 8, 10 and 9, 11 to which the supply and appliance are connected. Further terminals 14, 15 provide for an indicator lamp 16. The button 23 may also have a snap-on coloured cover 25, Fig. 2 (not shown), which is of sufficient thickness to be flush with the edge of the flange 24 of the button. The push-button also has a vertical slot 44 and two holes 45, 46 in the side wall adjacent the groove 38 which may alternatively be engaged by the pin 40 whereby the switch may be converted to a retractive push-button or may be permanently locked in the "on" or "off" positions. The pin 40 is inserted in the slots 7, 38 by separating the flexible wall 47 from the button 23.
