Abstract
1368212 Data transmission systems MARCONI CO Ltd 19 March 1973 [15 June 1972] 28002/72 Heading H4P A data handling circuit of the kind in which data signals are handled in blocks having a variable length and/or transmission rate and in which it is required to monitor the circuit during a predetermined period which is short compared with the shortest length data block comprises: a shift register 4 having a transmission time equal to the predetermined time; means 1 for sampling data signals handled by the circuit and applying the samples to the input 3 of the register 4; and means 18 for stopping the register at a desired time. Preferably the desired time is at the end of a word, and the means 18 is a gate controlled by an end-of-word signal to inhibit a register stepping signal provided by multivibrator 15. The outputs from all the register stages are coupled to OR-gate 16 so that a "1" detected in any register stage will produce a "1" output on line 17. The end-ofword signal on line 19 and the signal on line 17 may be applied to an AND-gate, so that an indication is only given when stepping has been stopped.
