Abstract
Biaxially oriented polyethylene-2,6-naphthoate, film has a Young's modulus of >=100,00 esp. 120,000 kg/cm2 in the longitudinal direction, and an R value of =0.50 at any point selected in the transverse direction. The value of R is obtd. by (a) removing a sample with a length of >=10 cm in the transverse direction, and any desired length in the longitudinal direction, from any place in the film, (b) drawing indicator lines in the longitudinal direction of the sample at intervals of 2.5 cm, (c) continuously measuring the thickness of the sample in the transverse direction, (d) determining the average thickness, and the difference between the max. thickness and the min. thickness in each sector defined by two adjacent indicator lines, and (e) dividing the average value of these differences by the average thickness.
