Abstract
136,777. Wade, H., (General, Ordnance Co.). June 27, 1919. Line - throwing apparatus. - Consists in making fixed ammunition for line-throwing with (i) a projectile having a cylindrical body 1 and an extension 3 of reduced diameter terminating in an eye for attachment to the line 5, and (2) a cartridge having a front cover 7 secured to the base of the projectile, a tubular case 6 integral with a base 8, and a primer 15 at the end of an axial rod 10 secured to the base of the projectile. The base 8 is slit radially to open out and act as a gas check when the cartridge is fired and the case expelled with the projectile. The various joints are coated with shellac or white lead as at 20. The projectile is made of cheap cast iron such as malleable iron, the cylindrical part is turned true and lubricated, and the forward part is painted. This invention is intended especially for use with the apparatus described in Specification 139,713, [Class 92 (ii), Ordnance &c.].
