Abstract

1367599 Valves AGA AB 30 July 1973 36078/73 Heading F2N [Also in Division A5] A valve arrangement for use in a system for spontaneous and artificial respiration, comprises first and second transfer parts 6, 5, Fig. 1, and an exhaust port 7. In use, gas from aspiration line 15 and supplementary gas line 16 forces valve disc 2 to the position shown and flows into a compressible reservoir 14 via gaps between supports 4. When the reservoir is full the consequent build up of pressure in chamber 1 opens check valve 10 to exhaust excess gas to atmosphere. By compressing the reservoir 14 the gas therein forces the disc 2 upwardly against seatings 8, 9 thereby isolating exhaust port 7, and opens ancillary valve 3 through which it flows back to line 15 and thence to the patient. Thereafter, if the reservoir 14 is held compressed the supplementary gas forces disc 2 away from seatings 8, 9 to exhaust excess gas through the check valve 10. The latter may be replaced by a throttle communicating with an open reservoir. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the valve disc is replaced by an apertured diaphragm.
