Abstract
1367596 Differential gearing CLARK EQUIPMENT CO 17 April 1973 18550/73 Heading F2D In a limited-slip differential comprising a rotary input member or planet carrier 24 housing a spider or cross 30 carrying planetary bevel pinions 34 meshing with side wheels 36L (36R, not shown) splined to output shafts 16L (16R), and friction rings 40, 44, 46, a backing member 50L for maintaining the rings in frictional engagement with each other is adjustably mounted in the carrier so that it is movable only in the direction towards the side gear for taking up wear in the rings. As shown, the backing member is mounted in the carrier by screw threads 56 and biased in the rotational sense by a torsion spring 58L. A spring washer 54 maintains the correct depth of mesh between the side wheel and the planetary pinions. In a modification, a greater number of friction rings is provided and a stop ring, bolted to the carrier, is interposed between the friction rings and the side wheel.
