1367292 Knitting-machines F LONATI E LONATI F LONATI and T LONATI [trading as COSTRUZIONI MECCANICHE LONATI DI LONATI FRANCESCO & FIGLI ETTORE FAUSTO E TIBERIO Snc] 12 Oct 1971 [21 Oct 1970] 47517/71 Heading D1C A fabric take-down device in a superposed, rotatable cylinder machine comprises a fabric engaging cone 13 supported by two rods 8, passing through a plate 21 rigid with the upper cylinder 2 and suspended from a piston 6 housed in a cylinder 1. Rotation of the piston as the cylinders rotate is prevented by a bearing 10. The rods slide in a sleeve 15 sealed by gaskets 16, and supported in a collar 4 by bearing 17. A gasket 7 seals the top of the piston in cylinder 1, so that compressed fluid can be supplied below the piston by a duct 18. The piston can be loaded with weights to vary the fabric tension. The piston is raised by the fluid to disengage the cone from the fabric during knitting of the first few courses, the heel and the toe of a stocking. The fabric is prevented from rising during disengagement, by pneumatic tension.
