Abstract
1366754 Klystrons THOMSON-CSF 17 May 1972 [18 May 1971] 23272/72 Heading H1D An output arrangement for a microwave tube includes an output coupling loop 10 coupled to an external coaxial line 11 by an auxiliary coaxial line 15 extending in the direction of the electron beam, of length (2n+3)#/4, and shortcircuited at its two ends 16 and 17, the coupling loop and the external line being coupled to it at points located #/4 from its two ends, whereby interruption of the magnetic focusing coil 12 by the perpendicularly extending line 11 is avoided. As shown, the loop 10 is coupled to the output cavity of a klystron having a collector 9, and disturbance of the focusing field is minimized by the provision of a soft iron sleeve 18 around the line 15 where it passes through the polepiece 13. As shown in Fig. 4, the output loop 10 and the vacuum window 26 are cooled by a coolant circulating through the inner conductor 20 of the auxiliary coaxial line, and the window is additionally cooled by an external conduit 34. The caps 16 and 17 short-circuiting the auxiliary line may be adjustable (Fig. 5, not shown) to permit impedance matching.
