Abstract

1366414 Bearings; telescopic shafts GLAENZER SPICER 3 Aug 1972 [26 Jan 1972] 36302/72 Headings F2A and F2U A telescopic roller coupling (Fig. 1) comprises a generally cylindrical sheath 1 formed with three longitudinally-extending, inwardly-facing and equiangularly spaced grooves 1a, 1b, 1c, each of which defines a pair of guideways of part-circular section disposed face-to-face and symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis of the groove, a shaft 16 disposed coaxially within the sheath, three equiangularly spaced roller axles 4 extending radially of the shaft, and three rollers 3 of part-spherical profile mounted one on each axle for free rotation, rolling freely on and radially located by the respective pairs of guideways. The axles may be carried on a ring 5 disposed on the shaft by means of conical splines and locked to the shaft by a nut. In one embodiment (Fig. 2) the shaft is guided by an additional set of three rollers. In further embodiments, (a) a ring is mounted within the sheath to locate the shaft; (b) an enlarged section of the shaft is arranged to engage the internal walls of the sheath to locate the shaft.
