Abstract

1366022 Apparatus for separating fibre from air streams LUWA AG 13 Nov 1972 [22 Nov 1971] 52248/72 Heading BIT In an apparatus for separating fibres from an entraining air stream the fibres are removed from a screen, compressed and discharged by means of a plunger. The fibres enter through duct 144, pass through duct 142 and are trapped on cylindrical screen 154, the fibre free entraining air leaving at discharge outlet 178. An annular plunger 126 (driven by reversible motor 138 through chain sprockets 134, chain 135 and threaded spindles 132) is depressed and scrapes the fibres from the screen 154 and thrusts them downwardly against a closure formed by a set of overlapping fan-wise leaf springs 158 and 160 which are displaced to allow the compacted fibre to be thrust through opening 114 (e.g. into a bag or box). A second cylindrical screen 150 which may be telescopic or flexible is connected to the plunger 126, descends with it and traps fibre during the downward descent of the plunger 126 in cooperation with fixed obstructing cylinder 164, the fibre on screen 150 being removed by internal annular scraper 148 during the upward travel of screen 150 and plunger 126.
