Abstract

1365847 3 - Alkylcyano - phenothiazines RHONE-POULENC SA 26 March 1973 [27 March 1972] 14360/73 Heading C2C Compounds (I) in which R 1 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, R is hydrogen or methyl and Y is hydrogen or an alkyl, alkoxy or alkylthio group of 1 to 4 C atoms are prepared by reacting the corresponding 2-chloro-phenothiazine with a nitrile R 1 -CH 2 -CN preferably in liquid ammonia in the presence of sodamide. Compounds prepared are (10 - methyl - 3 - phenothiazniyl) - acetonitrile and 2-(10-methyl-3-phenothiazinyl)- and 2 - (7 - methoxy - 10 - methyl - 3 - phenothiazinyl)- propionitrile.
