Abstract

1365654 Forging MASCHINENFABRIK SACK GmbH 9 Feb 1973 [18 Feb 1972] 6611/73 Heading B3H A control device for a forging machine of the type with a set of co-operating dies 1 driven by respective piston-cylinder devices 3, 4 includes a device 48 for measuring the position of each die and an electrical controller 46 responsive to signals from the device 48 to control a servovalve 42 in the hydraulic line to a compensating piston-cylinder device 35 to vary the quantity of hydraulic fluid in the line 21 between a pistonpump 22 and the piston-cylinder devices 3, 4. The controller 46 compares the actual value of the innermost position of the die with a nominal value. The position of a piston-rod 38 of the compensating device 35 is also fed to the controller 46. A pair of transmitters 50, 58, feed signals to the controller to indicate the full retracted and fully advanced condition of the pump piston 24 which is driven by a crank 26 common to all the pump pistons of the dies. The signals from the transmitters 50, 58 cause the controller to receive the signal from the device 48 when the die is innermost and to move the valve 42 when the die is outermost and the line 21 is not pressurized. The position of the pistonrod 37 of the compensating device 35 determines the volume of the chamber 34 and thus the amount of fluid in the line 21 and hence the die and stroke positions.
