Abstract

1365250 Ice clearing vessels AIR LOGISTICS CORP 15 Nov 1972 [24 Nov 1971] 52661/72 Heading B7A [Also in Division E1] Ice channel cutting apparatus for mounting on a marine vessel comprises a support structure 12, two fixed ice cutting means 14, 16 for location one at each side of the vessel and secured to the support structure 12, and a further ice cutting means 18 adapted to traverse a path between the fixed ice cutting means 14, 16 so as to cut the ice into blocks. The traversing ice cutting means may be mounted on a track 26 (Fig. 1) extending between the fixed ice cutting means 14, 16 or may be mounted on an arm pivoted on the vessel. The traversing ice cutting means 18 may comprise opposed rotary cutters 52, 58 (Fig. 4) mounted on shafts 54, 60 which are driven by motor 30 which also drives the cutters along the track 26 via gearing 44, 46 and 40. The fixed ice cutting means may each comprise a single set of such cutters. More than one traversing ice cutting means may be provided. The fixed ice cutting means may be vertically reciprocating instead of rotary.
