Abstract

1364501 Semi-conductor switching circuits PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 Oct 1971 [22 Oct 1970] 49137/71 Heading H3T [Also in Division H2] An arrangement for supervising a plurality of switching devices S1 ... Sn each of which is connected to one side of a respective load B1 ... Bn, e.g. coils for moving printing mallets in a line printer, the other side of each load being connected to a supply source V1 through a common controlled rectifier CR, which after having been rendered conducting by a starting pulse C1 can only be rendered non-conducting by an extinguishing pulse C2 when the current through the rectifier CR has fallen to a low value due to all switching devices being open or non-conducting, is provided with a detector circuit which detects when an extinguishing pulse fails to render the rectifier non-conducting because the current through the rectifier is above the low value due to one or more of the switching devices remaining closed or conducting. When all the switching devices S1 ... Sn are open, a small current flows through the rectifier CR and an impedance Z. When the extinguishing pulse C2 is not able to render the rectifier CR non-conducting, the voltage produced by the small current through the impedance Z remains and a threshold device 3 is unable to provide a reset signal A to a flip-flop memory device FF. The extinguishing pulse C2 is also applied to a pulse shaper 4 which provides a time pulse B, the leading edge of which sets the device FF to provide a signal FF1 to an AND gate 5. The pulse B is also applied to an invertor input of the gate 5 so that when the extingushing pulse C1 ceases, without the flip-flop having been reset, the AND gate provides a signal, e.g. an alarm signal, or a signal effective to stop any further starting signal and to disconnect the supply V1,
