Abstract

1364103 Smoking mixture IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 13 Nov 1972 [15 Dec 1971] 58230/71 Heading A2C The mixture comprises a solid combustible material other than tobacco and as a flavourant a compound of the formula: wherein X<SP>1</SP> represents the atoms necessary to complete a carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring of 5 or 6 carbon atoms and X<SP>2</SP> represents an alkyl radical of 1 to 4 carbon atoms. In one example, an aqueous slurry containing thermally degraded cellulose, glycerol, ammonium sulphate, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, magnesite, calcium carbonate and bentonite was cast to form a sheet, shredded and the shreds sprayed with a solution of corylone in diethyl ether. The resultant mixture was then blended with an equal weight of tobacco. In another example, nicotine and lactic acid were included in the slurry. In further examples, in which the flavourant was incorporated in the slurry before casting, the flavourants used were maltol. isomaltol, dihydromaltol, ethylmaltol and α-hydroxy-#-methyl-γ-hexenolactone.
