1363933 Combustion heated radiation source SANDERS ASSOCIATES Inc 26 Oct 1971 29 Oct 1970] 49788/71 Heading F4R A combustion heated source of infra-red radiation comprises a combustion chamber 60 with a window 82, combustion mixture inlets 84, 88, combustion products exhaust 70, an ignition arrangement 92, 94, and a mechanical modulator 100. The chamber may be double walled and of zirconium oxide. The fuel may be gaseous, the oxygen being fed circumferentially about the window to maintain the window temperature as low as possible. The modulator may comprise two sets of parallel blades, acting as louvres, operated by electric motors, in order that amplitude modulation may take place.
