1363911 Carrier bags BRITISH VISQUEEN Ltd 15 Feb 1972 [2 March 1971] 5798/71 Heading A4G A plastics carrier bag comprises a front panel 1, and a back panel 2 each being generally rectangular and joined to each other along three edges to form a bag with a mouth, the back panel at the mouth edge extending beyond the edge of the front panel, this extending edge portion being folded down over the front panel and joined at its side edges to the side edges of the front panel, thus forming a captive closure flap, hand-holds 5 being cut through the front and back panels below the lower edge of the closure flap, the edge portions of each panel at the mouth including at least one layer of plastics in addition to the layer or layers generally forming the panel, this additional layer or layers extending at least to the level of the lower edge of the closure flap. The reinforcements may be formed by pleats 7 and 11, and these may be heat-sealed at 8, 9 and 12. The reinforcements may extend beyond the handle holes, when corresponding holes may be cut in the reinforcement. In this case, the handle holes of respective panels and reinforcements may be heat-sealed together. The bag may be of PVC or polyethylene.
