Abstract
1363761 Electronic watches SUWA SEIKOSHA KK 7 June 1971 19060/71 Heading G3T [Also in Division H4] In an electric timepiece provided with a nematic or cholesteric liquid crystal display, the hours and minutes are displayed as variable numerical characters e.g. using seven segment displays, and periods of time less than one minute are displayed in a different manner. As described, a circular display is divided into six sectors which are sequentially turned on during the course of a minute i.e. at ten second intervals. A different number of sectors may be provided, with intervals of a corresponding duration. The timepiece is driven from a master oscillator followed by a chain of frequency dividers, with corresponding decoders and drivers for the various display elements. The driver for the sectored display receives the output of the decoder and associated frequency divider receiving one pulse per 10 seconds, via an AND gate, the other input of which receives a one pulse per second signal. A switch is provided for resetting each divider to its initial state. Further switches and gates are used for stepping individual dividers.
