1355161 Electronic timepieces SUWA SEIKOSHA KK 7 March 1972 [8 March 1971] 10530/72 Heading G3T An electronic timepiece functions to indicate selectively on interrogation either the time of day or elapsed time (chronograph) on the same numeric four-digit display unit (liquid crystal or light-emitting diodes). From the 100 HZ output of a frequency divider counter 1, derived from a crystal controlled oscillator X in a conventional manner, frequency divider counters 2 to 5 produce time of day (secs, mins, hours and 24 hour day) signals B1 to B4 to a coder 10. Likewise f dividers 6 to 9 produce chronograph signals A1 to A4. Selector switching in the coder 10 selects either set of signals depending upon, whether a switch S1 is open or closed. The coder outputs C1 to C4 are fed to a memorizing register 11 to which shift pulses are applied from counter 1 via a NOR gate G. When a switch S2 is closed the shift pulses are cut-off and the contents of the register 11 are memorized. Depending upon whether a switch S3 is open or closed a gate 12 selects either signals C3, C4 (time period down to 1 min.) or C2, C1 (secs, 0À1 secs, 0À01 secs), to pass to a decoder 13. The decoder drives the numeric display 14 each digit of which is formed by selective energization of its 7 - elements in a known manner. Provision may also, be made to display the date on the same display unit. Integrated circuit techniques using M.O.S. elements may be employed, to make the timepiece suitable as a wrist-watch.
