Abstract

1363703 Railway vehicle undercarriages JAPANESE NATIONAL RAILWAYS 24 Sept 1971 [25 Sept 1970 (3)] 44676/71 Heading B7L A railway vehicle, Fig. 2a, comprises a substantially non-tiltable chassis including bolsterbeams 2, 2<SP>1</SP> on a longitudinally extending centre sill 1, and a vehicle body 8 mounted on the chassis for tilting movement about a longitudinal axis through point 9 located above the centre of gravity 80 of the body 8 so that when traversing a curve the vehicle body 8 swings about the axis through 9 under the action of centrifugal force in the manner of a pendulum. The transverse bolster beams 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, which are fixedly mounted on the centre sill 1 and connected to truck frame 4 via bolster springs 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, carry rolling bearings 7 which support the body 8. The rolling bearings 7 comprise rotatable members 73, 73<SP>1</SP>, 74, 741 between inclined plates attached to the chassis at 71, 711 and the body at 72, 72<SP>1</SP>, the opposed surfaces of these plates forming parts of circles whose common centre is at point 9. The railway vehicle such as coach 82 may be in tractive connection with a further railway vehicle 81 which is substantially unable to tilt about any longitudinal axis. Coach 82 and vehicle 81 are coupled by a linkage 70 which permits tilting of the body of coach 82 about a longitudinal axis above its centre of gravity. An end post 19 mounted on vehicle 81 includes a supporting curved surface at 71<SP>1</SP>, and a cooperating supported curved surface at 72<SP>1</SP> is mounted on coach 82 via fastening means F, F<SP>1</SP> and linkages LK, LK<SP>1</SP>, roller members 73<SP>1</SP> and 74<SP>1</SP> being disposed between the curved surfaces. Member 71<SP>1</SP>, which has the supported curved surface, may be pivoted about a vertical axis at a pin 77a<SP>1</SP>. The centre sill 1 may be provided with couplers 6 at its ends for connection to other vehicles.
