Abstract

1362832 Velocity-modulated tubes VARIAN ASSOCIATES 3 Sept 1971 [3 Sept 1970] 41143/71 Heading H1D A travelling-wave tube, or the travelling- wave section of a hybrid tube, employs a coupled-cavity slow-wave circuit in which each cavity end wall has one coupling slot, all the slots lie to one side of the beam, in a common plane which includes the beam and the slots are dimensioned to have a resonant frequency at the upper band edge frequency of the cavity mode, whereby backward-wave oscillations are suppressed, and the introduction of lossy material may be dispensed with. As shown, the coupling slots, 21, are axially aligned.
