Abstract

1362720 Flexible ferrite magnets H G COCHARDT 14 Oct 1971 [14 Oct 1970] 47911/71 Heading C1J [Also in Division C3] Flexible permanent magnets contain ferrite particles embedded in an elastomeric binder, the ferrite particles having predominantly single crystal characteristics and at least a proportion of the ferrite particles being of multi-domain size. Powdered iron ore is the basic raw material from which such ferrites are made, typical starting mixes comprising 19% BaCO3, 80% Fe2O3 and 1% of SiO2, sulphates, CaO and/or Al2O3. Additionally the ferrites may contain Sr, Pb or Ca. An example describes the manufacture of a ferrite from 800 g. Fe2O3, 180 g. of BaCO3 and 20 g. of PbO.SiO2 which was calcined at 2150‹ F., pulverized, milled in water and pressed.
