1362501 Convertible table carrel SICO Inc and K H WILSON 26 Oct 1972 [28 June 1972] 49441/72 Heading A4H A convertible table-carrel comprises a table top 10 having two sections 10a, 10b, each section having pivotally secured thereto a pair of side walls 22, 23 and a back wall 24 having a peripheral flange 24a, the side walls 22, 23 being moveable between storage positions folded downwardly against the top section 10a or 10b and vertical carrel-forming positions, the back wall 24 being moveable between an open vertical carrel-forming position in which it extends partly below the top section 10a or 10b and a closed table-forming position in which it overlies the folded side walls 22, 23, the vertical side walls 22, 23 being prevented from swinging outwardly by engaging end portions of the flange 24a, and the side walls 22, 23 being securely held against the flange portions by a shelf 27 extending horizontally forwardly from the open back wall 24 and engaging stops 22a, 23a on the side walls. The shelf 27 can be pivoted on the back wall 24 to a storage position lying against the under surface of the back wall 24 and is retained in this position by a spring-loaded latch 28, 29. Top sections 10a, 10b are mounted on frame sections 11a, 11b connected by hinges (12), 13 so that the top sections 10a, 10b can be folded from the coplanar position shown to a vertical storage position so as to provide a room divider. Telescopic leg members 14, 15 are pivotally connected to the frame sections 11a, 11b, and the leg members 14, 15 are retained vertical during folding of the top sections 10a, 10b by link members 18, 19 pivoted to the leg members and the opposite top section. The top 10 is locked in the horizontal position by a U-shaped rod 20, one leg of which is pivoted in aligned openings in the hinges (12), 13 and the other leg of which releasably engages between a pair of ears (13a), 13b on the hinge 13.
