Abstract

1362027 Knitting G BILLI & C SpA 13 July 1971 [15 July 1970] 32707/71 Headings D1C and D1K In a method of manufacturing tubular articles e.g. tights one portion is retained on knitting instruments while the other is knitted, the two portions then being joined by knitting. In one embodiment a foot 1, leg 3 are knitted using half the total complement of needles. The panty 5 is knit with all the needles and then retained on half the needles while a tab 13 is knitted. The other toe 9 and leg 11 are knit on the remaining half of the needles. The two portions are joined by a tab 15. In a second embodiment the first portion terminates half-way across the panty and is held on hooks by a welt dial. To separate the two portions during knitting the second portion is pneumatically drawn upwards through the centre of the dial, or through the central one of two coaxial take-down tubes.
