Abstract

1359847 Alkoxymethyl amino s-triazines AGRIPAT SA 18 Aug 1971 [19 Aug 1970 22 March 1971 23 July 1971] 38815/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises (alkoxymethylamino)-s-triazines of formula where R 1 is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl group, a cyclopropyl group or a methylcyclopropyl group, R 2 is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl group and X is a methoxy, methylthio or azido group or a chlorine atom which may be prepared by reacting an amino s-triazine of formula with formaldehyde in the presence of base to form a product of formula which is isolated and then etherified with an alkanol R 2 OH in the presence of a strong mineral acid and optionally if X is chlorine it may be replaced by a methoxy, methylthio or azido group. The s-triazines in which X is an azido group may be prepared by reacting compounds of formula R 2 -OH with nitrous acid or an alkali metal nitrate. The preparation of a large number of the s-triazines is exemplified. The products have good herbicidal properties and may be mixed with conventional additives to provide herbicidal compositions. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 927,348.
