Abstract

1359660 Purifying I C engine exhaust gases BRITISH LEYLAND MOTOR CORP Ltd 3 Dec 1971 [18 Dec 1970] 60198/70 Heading F1B Heat is removed from the exhaust gases upstream of a first catalytic reactor 13 and returned to the gases upstream of a second catalytic reactor 15. Air supplied by a blower 19 is heated by the exhaust gases in a shell and tube heat exchanger 12 and the heated air is fed through a tube 21 to the exhaust duct 11 downstream of the reactor 13. The duct 11 downstream of the reactor 13 and the reactor 15 are covered in thermal insulation 16. NO is reduced in reactor 13 and HC and CO are oxidized in reactor 15. The catalysts may be as described in Specification 1334797.
