Abstract
1359435 Tube rolling mills INSTITUT CHERNOI METALLURGII 31 July 1972 35714/72 Heading B3M A tube cold-rolling mill includes a pair of rolls 12, Fig. 2, each having a continuous helical groove 13 with a variable helix angle, the rolls being supported in a stand 1 (Fig. 1, in plan) for both reciprocating movement along guides 10 and synchronous angular oscillation about a vertical axis 2. During rolling, a tube 22 is fed along a line at an angle to the guides 10, the angle corresponding to the helix angle of the grooves at any moment. The rolls are reciprocated by tie rods 17 and a crosshead 16 coupled to a crank drive 15. The rods 17 are pivotally mounted at their ends to permit oscillation of the stand and rolls. Rack and pinion assemblies 14 cause rotation of the rolls during their reciprocation. The crosshead 16 moves in fixed guides, and has a central aperture (Fig. 3, not shown) through which the tube 22 passes. The stand 3 is oscillated by a rod 3 linked to a crank wheel 4, the wheel being rotated by gearing 5, 7, 8. A common drive assembly 9 is coupled to the gearing and to the crank drive 15.
