Abstract

1359241 Measuringfluid-flow GENERAL SIGNAL CORP 11 May 1972 [19 May 1971] 22208/72 Heading G1R A differential pressure fluid flowmeter includes a tube 11 of polygonal, preferably rectangular, cross-section which defines an inlet 16, a throat section 17 including a central pressure tap 22, and a converging section 18, the converging section comprising at least one pair of opposing converging walls 14, 15 each of which has a planar upstream portion 14a, 15a and a planar downstream portion 14b, 15b meeting along an edge 23, the throat section comprising opposing parallel walls which join the portions 14b, 15b along edges 24. The axial length of the section 18 being determined by the expression #A l (0À67-0À2B) and the axial length of the downstream portions by 0À56B#A 1 , where A 1 is the cross-sectional area of the inlet, and B is the Beta ratio of the tube. Preferably the tube has an inlet section 16, including another pressure tap 21, and a diffuser section 19. The crosssectional area of the tube at the junction between the portions 14 and 15 is preferably 1À25B<SP>2</SP>A 1 .
