Abstract

1343576 Measuring fluid flow GENERAL SIGNAL CORP 9 May 1972 [19 May 1971] 21645/72 Heading G1R A differential pressure fluid flow meter for inclusion in polygonal section ducts comprises a tube of corresponding cross-section (preferably rectangular or square), the tube having an inlet section 16, a smaller throat section 17 and a converging section 18 defined by at least one pair of opposed, planar, converging walls, pressure taps 21, 22 being located in the inlet and the throat sections, the axial length (a) of the converging section being between 2À78#A I (1-B) and 1À1 (2À78#A I (1-B)), where A I is the inlet section cross-sectional area and B is the ratio of the square roots of the cross-sectional areas of the throat and inlet sections. A diffuser section 19 is preferably included downstream of the throat section and of an axial length (f) 8À6 (#A I - #A T ) where AT is the throat section cross-sectional area. The axial length (b + c) of the throat section is 1-2B #A T , the throat tap 22 being located in the centre of a wall defining the section. The tap 21 is axially spaced from the inlet/ throat junction by a minimum distance (e) of 0À28 #A I and from the tube entrance by a distance (d) of at least 12in.
