1359404 Measuring fluid-flow GENERAL SIGNAL CORP 10 May 1972 [19 May 1971] 21917/72 Heading G1R A differential pressure fluid flowmeter comprises a circular or polygonal (preferably rectangular) section tube 11 including an inlet, a throat section 13 with throat tap 22, and an intermediate conveying section 14 including upstream and downstream portions 15, 16 each having a continuous edge 18, 19 at its exit which causes fluid to form a vena contracta, the axial lengths (c), (d) of the portions 15, 16 being #A I (0À67-0À76B) and 0À56#A T respectively, the cross-sectional area of the tube at the junction between the portions 15, 16 being 1À25A T , and the axial length (e and f) of the throat section being 0À6 #A T (where A I and A T are the crosssectional areas of the sections 12 and 13 and B is the Beta ratio of the tube). The tube may have an inlet section 12 with a pressure tap 21 spaced from the entrance of the section 14 by a distance (b) 0À55 #A I (B-0À31) and from the inlet section entrance by at least this distance (a). An optional diffuser section 17 has an axial length (g) of 6
