Abstract

1358591 Making capacitors; jointing by stamping BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd 27 Jan 1972 [27 Jan 1971] 3312/71 Headings B3A and B3Q A seal is formed between an inner member, an intermediate elastomeric sleeve and an outer metallic or other plastically deformable member by forming a constriction in the outer member, using an elastomeric ring under axial pressure. Two or more coaxial constrictions may be formed simultaneously, or two or more tubes may be constricted simultaneously. As shown, a pair of tubular extensions 1 of a capacitor casing 3 are crimped simultaneously against elastomeric sleeves surrounding lead-out wires 2 by means of elastomeric cylindrical rings or D-rings 8. Crimping pressure is applied to the rings 8 by annular plungers 9 attached to a head 10 which is struck by a pneumatic member 18. A stock 4 having parallel bores 7 for the plungers 9 is inserted by its handle (14), Fig. 2 (not shown), between jibs 11 of a body 12 until located, by ball-catches 13, in a position in which the stroke of the plungers 9 is limited by a stop (16). Members of circular or other cross-section may be sealed, using an elastomeric ring having an opening of a corresponding cross-section.
